This week, we explored the fast-moving and often invisible world of international cybersecurity policy.
Helene Pleil, Senior Policy Researcher at Interface, joined us and provided a glimpse into what it means to build resilience against cyber threats and why it’s such a crucial piece of the EU’s vision for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age.
After briefly introducing her work, Helene led our fellows through a group simulation. Acting as cybersecurity advisors, they were tasked with supporting the fictional country of Avalon, whose political infrastructure had been targeted by a cyber operation.
Each group addressed a different challenge:
1- What might motivate a group or state to launch such an operation?
2- How should Avalon respond to restore public trust in its elections and institutions?
3- How can the international community better protect democratic systems in the future?
A big thank you to Helene for joining us and making such a complex topic feel accessible and engaging for all.
